Week 4 Part A: Defining Target Markets

I chose Sprouts and Cream of the Crop as my two websites. I would say the most obvious difference between the two is that Sprouts is most definitely professionally designed, while COTC is definitely homemade. Sprouts is very organized and has content that is regularly updated, whereas COTC doesn't seem to be regularly updated.  The more subtle differences are probably fonts and things like that.

I think both companies are supposed to appeal to generally the same type of person: someone who is interested in fresh, possibly organic, healthy, local, affordable food. That person is also most likely more progressive (in my experience). Sprouts has multiple locations, so that can appeal to anyone--while COTC is only one location and probably just for people who live nearby or have lived in Oside for a long time and have gone there for a while.

I think for Sprouts, they are going for a playful, casual, fresh look on their site--and one that is user-friendly for their demographic. It's a very engaging site, and they seem to know their audience well (same demographics as above). I also love their fall header/photos up top! It looks really appealing and fun, with lots of vibrant colors and white space. I don't really feel COTC has an intentional tone or look. It's not heavily designed, and it definitely comes across as local.

Again, I feel like Sprouts is super user-friendly and appealing, from their excellent hierarchy to their choice of casual font. They seem to know what their audience wants too: deals, recipes and the option to order online. COTC is not too user-friendly, especially on mobile. And they don't have too much content on their site overall, which I actually think is ok since it's a local spot with one location and probably doesn't have a ton of website visitors. Both seem to have social media, but Sprouts' looks more up-to-date.

I'd say the food photos are better quality on the Sprouts site than on COTC. I think COTC could definitely take some more appealing photos and put them up.

Wk15A: Using Google Analytics to Improve your Marketing: FA22 CSIT 155 1574

I think I could use Google Analytics to see how many page views I'm getting, what time of day, how much people interact with my site, etc. I had a chance to look at what my site is doing now, and it was interesting to see how many new users I had and how long they stayed on my site.  From the reading, I was reminded to check out “What’s Trending” in various social media to see what people are talking about. I believe that was also a tip mentioned in the textbook. For example, if parents in San Diego are posting about crowded xmas tree lots, I could write a post on the "Least crowded xmas tree farms" or "Most affordable places to get your xmas tree this year." I also think I could use Google ads to increase my brand presence and target people searching for things to do in San Diego or people who had looked at similar blogs, perhaps.  It's interesting that you can also anticipate future customer actions with Google’s machine learning. That's a really cool ...

Week 6 Part B: Creating and Scheduling FaceBook Posts

This was fun! I am having a great time exploring my classmate's pages and seeing their posts. Here are the ones I visited/commented on: Amy Mather: https://www.facebook.com/Protein4PetsVista/ Kristy Yam: https://www.facebook.com/EncinitasDonuts Pablo Correa: https://www.facebook.com/PurpleTsunamiClothing/ I also posted a few things on my page ( North County Fam ) and scheduled a few upcoming posts (all below). I think these posts will engage my audience because they are fun upcoming events, include questions and utilize colorful, easy-to-view images. I'm curious to see how people engage with them!

Week 17: Wrapping It Up

I had a great time playing around with different social posts in this class and learning about new social platforms + some of my classmates' businesses. It's really cool to see how people right in my community are working hard to make their businesses as good as they can be! I don't think my viewpoint of social media has changed over the last few months, but my awareness of what's possible through it has changed. For example, I never thought to use meetup or Linkedin for my business. I definitely have a better understanding of how to use social media to develop a business, especially in terms of creating a newsletter, scheduling and experimenting with different forms of social media. I also found the research we did on our target market and possible hashtags to be helpful. I will definitely be incorporating some of those hashtags into more of my posts. I would say that in looking at other businesses, I noticed that the ones that seemed successful and popular on social p...
