Week 5 Part B: Learning about FaceBook Data Collecting

When it comes to your reach on social, it's important to know how many people have seen your posts (and in what time period) to stay on track with your goals and see if some posts or ads are reaching more people than others. I tested this once for a website I write for called The Sunday Long Read. I wrote a couple ads for them and tested out different demographics to see how many impressions we got/clicks/etc. I didn't think one ad would reach that many more people, but it did! As far as posts go, it's nice to see if more people view them at certain times of day, on different days, etc. For my job, we usually do social posts on weekdays between 10-2pm because it tends to work best for our audiences (except for deadline-oriented posts). The insights tool also helps you learn your potential audience (with an ad), which is fun!

Engagement is important because, even if you reach a million people, if they aren't interacting with it (clicking, commenting, etc) it might not be doing anything. As the textbook explains, you have to post things you'd actually want to read yourself. For example, don't just say "We've got great tips on things to do with your kids" (for my business). Instead, I could say something more interesting like "What's your favorite local beach to take your kids to?" I think more people would tend to interact with that since it's a question, it's open-ended, and people love to share their expertise/opinions! Insights also lets you see the top-performing posts (most likes, most comments) and other important info like what types of content is getting the most attention (photos, videos, stories, etc). You can also see age, gender, location, etc info. I'm interested to see how my page develops once I get some followers! For now, I'm taking a look at some similar pages (like Minnesota Mom and FamDiego) to see what their pages are doing.

Wk15A: Using Google Analytics to Improve your Marketing: FA22 CSIT 155 1574

I think I could use Google Analytics to see how many page views I'm getting, what time of day, how much people interact with my site, etc. I had a chance to look at what my site is doing now, and it was interesting to see how many new users I had and how long they stayed on my site.  From the reading, I was reminded to check out “What’s Trending” in various social media to see what people are talking about. I believe that was also a tip mentioned in the textbook. For example, if parents in San Diego are posting about crowded xmas tree lots, I could write a post on the "Least crowded xmas tree farms" or "Most affordable places to get your xmas tree this year." I also think I could use Google ads to increase my brand presence and target people searching for things to do in San Diego or people who had looked at similar blogs, perhaps.  It's interesting that you can also anticipate future customer actions with Google’s machine learning. That's a really cool ...

Week 6 Part B: Creating and Scheduling FaceBook Posts

This was fun! I am having a great time exploring my classmate's pages and seeing their posts. Here are the ones I visited/commented on: Amy Mather: https://www.facebook.com/Protein4PetsVista/ Kristy Yam: https://www.facebook.com/EncinitasDonuts Pablo Correa: https://www.facebook.com/PurpleTsunamiClothing/ I also posted a few things on my page ( North County Fam ) and scheduled a few upcoming posts (all below). I think these posts will engage my audience because they are fun upcoming events, include questions and utilize colorful, easy-to-view images. I'm curious to see how people engage with them!

Week 17: Wrapping It Up

I had a great time playing around with different social posts in this class and learning about new social platforms + some of my classmates' businesses. It's really cool to see how people right in my community are working hard to make their businesses as good as they can be! I don't think my viewpoint of social media has changed over the last few months, but my awareness of what's possible through it has changed. For example, I never thought to use meetup or Linkedin for my business. I definitely have a better understanding of how to use social media to develop a business, especially in terms of creating a newsletter, scheduling and experimenting with different forms of social media. I also found the research we did on our target market and possible hashtags to be helpful. I will definitely be incorporating some of those hashtags into more of my posts. I would say that in looking at other businesses, I noticed that the ones that seemed successful and popular on social p...
